SEN Transition

How we support children/young people with SEN starting at our school

We have a good relationship with our feeder schools which allows for a smooth transition, they share all relevant SEN information with us so that we are able to plan an effective transition for our students. We offer many different provisions to support the transition between primary and secondary for students with SEND:

  • Dedicated pastoral and SEND team to deal with transition at all key phases
  • Parental information evenings
  • Parental/student visits and meetings with key staff
  • Guidance and support throughout the whole process
  • Early settling- in reviews
  • Close collaboration with the Local Authority

How we support children/young people with SEN moving between classes in our school

It may be necessary that students need support moving between classes. At these times it may be that the student needs to leave 5 minutes early from a lesson in order to avoid the large amount of students in the corridors at lesson change over. Some students may need to be escorted between lessons, if this is the case then a Learning Support Assistant/ HLTA will arrive at the end of the lesson and walk with the student to their next lesson.

How we support children/young people with SEN leaving our school

In order to support students leaving our school we will share information with the school, college, or other setting the student is moving to. Information that is shared with the further education establishment is first agreed with parents and students. Whilst still at Belmont students with SEND are offered the opportunity to go to their chosen further education setting on public transport. This gives them the opportunity to experience the actual trip and know what bus they will need to get. It is also an opportunity to meet with staff in the college and think about the courses that they are interested in studying.

If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
