Campaign targeting Hate Crime across County Durham and Darlington “Hate Hurts”
Ron Hogg, County Durham & Darlington Police, Crime & Victims’ Commissioner, has asked us to share this message with you.
You may be aware of a new campaign targeting Hate Crime across County Durham and Darlington, which has been covered extensively in local media in recent days. The multi-partner ‘Hate Hurts’ campaign aims to raise awareness and improve understanding of Hate Crime, explaining how to report it and encouraging everyone to play a part in reducing it.
The term Hate Crime can be used to describe a range of illegal criminal behaviours committed against someone else because of their disability, race, religion, sexual orientation, transgender identity or some other perceived difference. It can include verbal abuse, intimidation, threats, harassment, assault and bullying, both online and offline, and damage to property. The number of hate crimes reported to the Police has grown by around a quarter over the past four years with 517 crimes recorded across County Durham & Darlington in 2017-18. Snapchat – info for parents/carers
Social Media – Information for parents/carers
TikTok is in effect the replacement for Musical.ly and this app seems to have developed a big following in the last few weeks. It is not “more dangerous” than some other apps, but to help keep our children safe it would be wise to draw parents attention to current advice. Parents are advised – as with other apps to help their child review their privacy settings and to be aware that: “Even with a private account, profile information – including profile photo, username, and bio – will be visible to all users. Counsel your teen not to reveal personal information such as age, address, or phone number in his/her profile.”
Ofsted Inspection
Ofsted will inspect our school on 12th February. Please find attached the Ofsted letter to parents and the guidance leaflet.
