Reading Skills

November 12, 2020 By E. Morgan

Recent research into the reading skills of 15 year olds across the world found that children who are more interested in reading do better at school than those who don’t read for pleasure. The study also found that parents who talk to their children about books, TV programmes and films help to keep their children interested in reading. Having books, newspapers and magazines around at home also made a difference to how interested children were in reading. If you’re looking for ways to support your child with reading, please check out these resources.

Better for Everyone virtual meetings through the 14 Area Action Partnerships (AAP)

October 22, 2020 By E. Morgan

Durham County Council have asked us to share this with our school community.

People across County Durham are being invited to have their say on the future of the area at a series of virtual events, where residents will also be thanked for their good work during the pandemic.

Between 20 October and 12 November we are hosting the Better for Everyone virtual meetings through our 14 Area Action Partnerships (AAP) to gather your views on a wide range of issues.

By attending you will also find out more about how groups and individuals in your area have been supporting your community during the pandemic. Topics to be discussed are:

  • the Vision
  • the latest position re: Covid
  • an ask for Covid Community Champions
  • the opportunity to have a say in how £20m for towns and villages across the county will be spent
  • a thanks to local communities for all their efforts in supporting the county during Covid.

Further information is available at Online meetings offer opportunity to influence council’s work.

Further information about the virtual sessions and how to book a place is available at attend a Better for Everyone 2020 virtual event
